How to Enter/Fees & Forms
Fee is $250/entry, payable to Aurora Awards. Complete an entry application form for each entry. Download electronically at www.theauroras.com. Type in requested information, and keep a copy of each application. You may submit one check for total fees; the Aurora Awards will send you official entry portfolio(s), which you must use for your submittal(s).
All Entry Fees, Portfolio Requirements and Images will be sent via electronic transmission from www.theauroras.com. No materials need to be sent as hard copy unless you would like to send a back up set. Send all forms and materials to:

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS/ALL CATEGORIES
ALL ENTRIES WILL BE ASSIGNED AN ONLINE FOLDER WHERE ALL MATERIALS WILL BE SAVED. NO PAPER COPIES
Identification of Materials— Except for the entry application, company or project names anywhere in, or on, the entry materials is forbidden, and will result in elimination from the competition. Identify your drawings, prints & images with the entry numbers supplied by the Aurora Awards. All images and entry forms are to be saved on line at www.theauroras.com.
Project Information Form and Marketing Statement—ALL ENTRIES — download electronic file. Supply all information requested for your category. DO NOT exceed 200 words, or reduce type or add pages. Submit by saving to the assigned file location for your entry. You may go back to your forms and make updates until May 1, 2008.
Site Plan Drawings—Residential, Retirement, Landscape/Pool Design and Rental Apartment categories ONLY—Save all plans, site plans, landscape plans and Survey plans — which vary depending on category; refer to category details section to your folder on line.
Floor Plan(s)—ALL ENTRIES —Place Floor Plans must be saved in an 8 1/2” x 11” format; include total square footage excluding garages or porches, and room dimensions or approximate scale. Black and white or color is OK.
Photography ALL ENTRIES—We recommend professional architectural photography. Use 8” x 10” color images. Identify one image as your image required for print use. Check specific category requirements below for minimum images required.
Note—Composites/multiple images on an individual image are acceptable and may be used to show architectural or design details.
IMAGES Requirements —ALL ENTRIES — Submit all images on line — NO CD IS REQUIRED in digital format. Images should be saved to output an image with a resolution of 1800 pixels wide x 1200 pixels high at 300dpi. Save all images as a JPEG file at highest quality. Images saved as a TIFF will be returned to the entrant in order to be converted to JPEG. Please name files with Category # Image description (e.g. 01-001frontelevation.jpg). Floor plans/Site Plans: Please include clean JPEG files of floor plans and site plan. ON CD ADD A COMPANY LOGO AND AN ENTRANT PHOTO (HEAD SHOT)
Density Definitions Gross density is total acres divided by total units. Net density is the total buildable site area divided by the total number of units. Buildable acreage includes land that serves the project—homes, streets, parking and commons. Subtract acreage for unusable land—major slopes, wetlands, perimeter landscape lots, habitat areas or easements that cannot be integrated into the proposed development.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS AND RULES
The following supplements general requirements for categories shown. Please consult the Aurora Awards Staff for situations these guidelines do not cover. Categories 1-13 -Â Attached For Sale and Detached Single Family Home - Must include Project Information Form, Marketing Statement, and Floor Plan. Submit at least eight (8) views. Include a front and rear elevation, or rear/slide elevation. Include at least 4 interiors, additional images recommended.
Categories 14-20 - Custom Homes — Must include Project Information Form, Marketing Statement and Floor Plan. Submit at least sixteen (16) views. Include a minimum of four (4) interior (living room/family room, kitchen, master suite and master bath) and three (3) exteriors (front and rear and rear/side elevation) per entry.
Categories 21-22 and 23-25 - Rental Apartment and Recreational Facility - Must include Project Information Form, Marketing Statement and Floor Plan. Submit an 8” x 10” of the master site plan or project site plan. Within the images submitted please address community, neighborhood spirit, environmental issues, topography and innovative solutions. Sample of images can be pulled from: entry monuments (project name can be shown), streetscapes, aerial view(s) of the community (if possible), common areas, recreational facilities (clubhouse exterior, golf course, tennis, playing fields, marina, tot lots, bike paths, fitness trails, etc.) relationship of automobile to community (circulation, parking, etc.). For Residential development we recommend additional images showing overall view of the community and/or special architectural or planning features. Site plan should show overall site or typical cluster, with streets, alleys and commons. Data should include net density, number of units and number of building for total project. Submit one floor plan for each model or plan, or a set of the most representative models/plans. Include total square footage excluding garages and porches, and room dimensions or approximate scale. You should submit one to two building plans to illustrate methods of attachment, garage access, etc. A minimum of ten (10) views is required. A maximum of twenty (20) are permitted.
Categories 26-27 — Remodeling — Must Include Project Information Form, Marketing Statement, Site Plan and “Before” and “After” Floor Plans. Submit a minimum of four (4) interior and three (3) exterior “before” views and a minimum of four (4) interior and three (3) exterior “after” views of each entry. All views, before and after, must be taken from the same view. A maximum of sixteen (16) views are permitted.
Categories 28-37 — Kitchen and Bath - Must include Project Information Form, Marketing Statement and Floor Plan. Submit 8” x 10” floor plan of the kitchen or bath area. Include a minimum of three (3) views demonstrating the design features of the kitchen and bath and its relationship to adjoining rooms. Entry can include exterior views if pertinent to design and room function (e.g., greenhouse window, skylights, etc.). A maximum of six (6) views are permitted.
Categories 38-47 and 49-53 - Interior Merchandising/Detailing - Must include Project Information Form, Marketing Statement and Floor Plan. Submit 8” x 10” floor plan featuring furniture placement and a minimum of six (6) interior views, per entry, including shots of the living room, dining room, kitchen, master suite, master bath and family room, den or other room of your choice. No exterior views are required. A maximum of twelve (12) views are permitted.
Category 54-59 — Landscape Design/Pool Design - Must include Project Information Form, Marketing Statement and Site Plan or Landscape Plan. Submit at least eight (8) views demonstrating the overall creativity and use of plant materials, hardscape elements and waterscape elements. Include images representing the relationship of house to landscape design including pool deck. A maximum of ten (10) are permitted.
Categories 60-62 and 63-67— Energy, Water Green Construction and Solar - Must include Project Information Form, Marketing Statement, Energy, Solar, Green or Water Builder Forms, Site Plan and Floor Plan. Submit a minimum of four (4) interior (showing cost efficient appliances) and three (3) exterior (showing landscape materials and/or water-saving appliances) per entry. A maximum of 12 views are permitted.
Energy, Solar and Water Entries- Include one set of drawings for the representative model, with energy/solar or water savings calculations. Contact Lynne Edwards at ledwards@fhba.com for more info.
Green Building - Green Building guidelines set goals for significant improvements in energy efficiency, air quality, on-site waste recycling and reduction in water use. Contact Lynne Edwards at ledwards@fhba.com for more info.
Categories 68-73 and 74-76 — Commercial Project — Must include Project Information Form, Marketing Statement, Site Plan and Floor Plan. Submit a typical building footprint incorporating individual unit floor plans, main entrance to the project, interior entry, common areas, office/retail space and business work space. Submit a minimum of four (4) interior images. A maximum of ten (10) images are required.
Categories 77-79 Residential/Mixed Use Land Development- Must include Project Information Form, Marketing Statement and Floor Plan. Submit an 8” x 10” of the master site plan or project site plan. Within the images submitted please address community, neighborhood spirit, environmental issues, topography and innovative solutions. Definition of Mixed Use Building
Mixed use refers to the combining of retail/commercial and/or service uses with residential or office use in the same building or on the same site in one (1) of the following ways:
- Vertical Mixed Use. A single structure with the above floors used for residential or office use and a portion of the ground floor for retail/commercial or service uses.
- Horizontal Mixed Use – Attached. A single structure which provides retail/commercial or service use in the portion fronting the public or private street with attached residential or office uses behind.
Category 80-81 Remodeling for Commercial Space/Renovation of Office/Retail Must Include Project Information Form, Marketing Statement, Site Plan and “Before” and “After” Floor Plans. Submit a minimum of four (4) interior and three (3) exterior “before” views and a minimum of four (4) interior and three (3) exterior “after” views of each entry. All views, before and after, must be taken from the same view. A maximum of sixteen (16) views are permitted.
Category 82 — Retirement Community — Must include Project Information Form, Marketing Statement, Floor Plan and Site Plan. Submit a typical building footprint incorporating individual unit floor plans, main entrance to the community (project name can be shown), interior entry, common areas (including lounge, dining room, activities, etc.), recreational facilities, and a minimum of four (4) interior views from 2 different units. A minimum of ten (10) views are required. A maximum of twenty (20) are permitted.
NOTE: Entries failing to meet specified requirements, including detailed fact sheet information, and those entries failing to include the appropriate materials and minimum quantities, will be DISQUALIFIED prior to the official judging with NO REFUND.
